APAC President: 'Rarely can you see this kind of talent'

ATLANTA—APAC President Varinee Sangmalee, recipient of the 25 Most Influential Asian Americans in Georgia, said everyone should come to see Shen Yun Performing Arts which was being presented at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre on Aug. 21.

“Rarely can you see this kind of talent," she said. "It is all cooperated, united, together ... huge show like this,” Ms. Sangmalee said.

The New York-based company’s reawakening of ancient China’s traditional culture is brought into the 21st century for audiences to enjoy.

“Sometimes you don't see this beautiful scenery [anywhere else], the outfits—oh, just breathtaking!”

She was attending the show with her husband, Dr. Umpon Sangmalee who endorsed his wife’s comments.

“I like this show because it showed the beauty and culture of the Chinese, and it showed the development of the civilization and cultures. It is marvelous. I like to see it every year and learn.”

The couple missed last year's show because of another engagement, but they wouldn’t miss any future shows because it is getting even better every year, Ms. Sangmalee said. "I really love the effect they make. So real—I love that."

Ms. Sangmalee said the Shen Yun announcers explained perfectly the far-reaching effects ancient Chinese culture has on the global community.

Exquisitely costumed artists, a line-up of award winning musicians and vocalists seamlessly move from one scene to another against an interactive backdrop digital scene.

China’s famous legends, folkloric tales and modern-day stories captivated Ms. Sangmalee.

“I think it is the beautiful fairy tales-cultures that we can celebrate internationally, not just for Chinese people [to enjoy]. Every dance, every show is marvelous. As a woman, I like pretty things more than other things, but actually the action scenes, it seems like the performers are putting everything into it.”

She commented on the clever use of high-tech computerized graphics put with paintings on the screen the interplay on stage.
